fileIOsurrogate crashing in Vegas 11

Hi all,

When importing 20+ QT clips into the Project Media window, Vegas 11 (build 701) consistently crashes. I noticed the fileIOsurrogate*32 process was consuming upwards of a GB of RAM. After searching the forum, I see others have had issues (mainly rendering-related) with fileIOsurrogate.

Ultimately, I was able to resolve the problem by importing only a few (<5) clips at a time. Even using that method, eventually the IO would fail, and the clips would show green video previews (audio would play). Saving, exiting and restarting solves that problem (the new clips could be imported).

Question - in Vegas 13, has the situation been improved? Can multiple clips be imported without hangs, crashes or "green" clips?

Thanks
Brandon

If I remember this correctly, the conclusion is that this is a Quicktime limitation as it is only a 32bit application. Try and convert your footage to a different codec and then import. I personally stay far away from anything that requires Quicktime in the background.

unfortunately vegas 13 is not much better (although i'm getting around 110-130 clips of Prores from black magic 4k in HD, or about 20-30 in 4K, before it crashes/freezes).

the support team is apparently working on it, from what they're saying in my ticket,
and i was sending them some files to test, so hoping it might get fixed, but not holding my breath
