fill gaps

Is there a keyboard command to quickly fill a gap on the timeline by connecting 2 clips? In other words, if i have first (clip A), then a space and then (clip b), isn'ter there some keyboard command that will quickly combine them instead of dragging them together?....I know there is a command in the production assistant, but that seems to fill alll gaps on the timeline which is not what i'm looking for......rather, i'm looking to fill in small isolated sections......thank you.....

If you have all of your clips grouped with their audio, one thing you can do is right click on the second clip and it gives you a choice to select all of the following clips. Then just drag all of them into position.

Technically speaking, that's not filling the gap. Filling the gap would be leaving the two clips where they are and putting something else between them (or changing the size of one to take up that extra space).

(Mini-soapbox ahead. Skip next paragraph for actual solution.)

Also, I'm not sure I'd want "some keyboard command" that would instantly join the two events to remove that gap. After all, how should Vegas decide how to move them? Assume you have two five second events with two seconds between them. Should Vegas leave Event #2 where it is and make Event #1 finish (not to mention start two seconds later? Other way around? Move Event #1 one second forward, Event #2 one second back? How about events on the same track before or after those events? Events on other tracks? Personally, I wouldn't want to force (or even let) Vegas make the kind of assumptions it would have to in this situation. Vegas is the tool, I'm the editor. I'll make the decisions.

My nitpicking aside and assuming the editing decisions Vegas makes in this case are okay with you, turn on Auto-Ripple (button on the toolbar or hit Ctrl+L), then double-click between the two events and hit Delete. When you're done closing gaps, turn Auto-Ripple back off 'cause it's generally a pain in the neck. Alternatively, you should use Post-Ripple, but that's adding clicks / keystrokes, which is kind of what you're trying to avoid.

Honestly, unless you have a whole lot of gaps to close, dragging events around is probably the simplest approach.

Hi, Vegasaur has Close Gaps command that can delete all gaps between the selected events. It is the fastest way to solve your task in case of multiple events.
