Film to video

I can remember some time ago of a post regarding transferring 8mm film to video. One of the suggestions for improved results was to put the same capture on separate tracks, but offset one of them by one or two frames. The veg was then rendered to mpg in the usual fashion. The post was somewhere along those lines, but I can't remember the exact technique used. I would also like to know the rules to be followed in just using the cheapie method of transfer, i.e. video taping the film as it is being projected onto a white card. The films are 8 and super 8 family footage of 45 years ago. Thanks for any suggestions.
