FInal project wont show in 16:9 on TV

First off thanks for the help ( Posts ) that have already made my editing much easyer. The problem I seem to be having is if i use my Sony HC-85 set in widescreen to shoot with when I hook it up to my widescreen tv it shows with out any letterbox lines and shows full screen 16:9 not 4:3 widescreen. When I burn with I think the right settings it gives me a 4:3 widescreen not filling up the hole screen on the TV. I also noticed there is not a 1440 x 1020 ( If that is right ) option in architect ? Any advice on getting this to reproduce the same as if i had the camera hooked up to the tv.

More Info if needed.. Thanks..

May be a setting in your DVD Player setup - options may Squeeze, Letterbox or Widescreen - check that Widescreen is selected.

Thanks for the reply PW. I checked that and its set to 16:9 wide on the dvd player. Also the TV is set for 1080i widescreen. I can go to 16:9 zoom or 4:3 expanded but as we all know the destorted look is there. Its got to be something that I am missing in the projects properties cause when I film in standard I get a 4:3 picture with the camera hooked up then I film in widescreen and I get a true 16:9 full picture. I wont give up on this, it has to be doable. Any other thoughts ?

When I burn with I think the right settings

What settings do you use? Specifically, what were your project settings in Vegas? If you had your project set to 16:9, then the preview window in Vegas would have shown your content as being widescreen (not letterboxed).

And when you rendered the file, did you choose a widescreen template?

The format recorded by your camera is only step one. If you want to maintain the 16:9 ratio, you have to be sure that you keep it throughout the editing and authoring process. Since it's possible to combine 16:9 footage and 4:3 footage within the same Vegas project, Vegas can't guess which you want for the final video -- you have to tell it. :)

I also noticed there is not a 1440 x 1020

As of yet, digital video for use on DVDs is no larger than 720x480. Both widescreen and standard video use this -- widescreen simply has wider pixels. There are high definition formats being developed/released right about now, but they are not standard yet and not recognized by most DVD players.

Yes it looks Widescreen in the preview window looks great but on the tv 4:3 widescreen. The DVD player is a upscaleing 10801 player and it is set for widescreen and plays just fine in all formats.
I have tryed NTSC DV Widescreen 720x480 29.970 fps but I was pretty sure that is just a widescreen format for 4:3. I started over and went with HDV 720-30 and tryed that but again same thing 4:3 but in widescreen.(letterbox)

I'm in progress doing 1080i 1440x1080 but when moving it to Architect there is not a option for that setting. I'm going to redo everything from scrach and see what happens. If that option is not in Architect what do I do at that point? First rule about doing this preview on the bigscreen is get a few RW disks.... 13 or so DVD+Rs down the drain. :)

I wont give up, Will post more info when I learn something. Thanks for the reply Bstro I'm not done yet. If this is sketchy its cause I have been up for 22 hours.
