The VisionColor LUT Plugin is based on the free TuttleOFX TuttleOcioLut plugin. But TuttleOFX plugins aren't working in Vegas right now due to a bug that they plan to fix: https://github.com/tuttleofx/TuttleOFX/issues/418
Alas, most of these “freebies” collect that information and then email you a download link, so even if you lie about everything else, you cannot give them a fake email address. Besides, to me it is a matter of principle, where I simply refuse to deal with companies that play that game. And if they really annoy me, I write my own plugins. Writing a LUT plugin is about the easiest plugin that can be written.
Quite frankly, it should be built into Vegas anyway. No wonder that Vegas has the reputation of being for amateurs, when it doesn’t even support LUTs natively.
TBH, I would have written a LUT plugin for Vegas long time ago, but I have sworn I would never write a Vegas plugin again. Because I wrote plugins for 3D stereoscopy back when Vegas was not supporting stereoscopy internally. I made the plugins available to anyone for free, and the next thing I saw was SCS bragging at the annual thingie in Vegas (the city) that their software supports 3D stereoscopy with my plugins. I was so annoyed at SCS for using my work to advertise their product without even bothering to ask for my permission that I stopped writing Vegas plugins altogether.
What would be very cool is a plugin to allow us to apply a LUT just to the video preview, in a similar way to Satevis' Antares PreviewLevels extension, rather than as an effect. i.e. As (I believe) LUTs were intended to be used.
OK, wwjd, I tried it. It installed both, a 32-bit and a 64-bit version. The 32-bit version (in 32-bit Vegas Pro 11) worked. The 64-bit version (in 64-bit Vegas Pro 12) showed the dialog but the Browse button was missing and typing the cube file path and name to where it asked for a file name didn’t work.
That seems like a bug in 64-bit Vegas Pro 12 rather than a bug in the plugin because the OFX specification expects the host (such as Vegas) to present an open-a-file interface.
I don’t have version 13 because it doesn’t work on my computer, so I couldn’t test that.
I want to try it out but it did not work, Bug? In Vegas Pro 12 it is missing the Browse button. In Vegas Pro 13 when I click on the browse button it open a dialog box to my desktop and I don't see any lut cue for me to load.
@BruceUSA - You have to know exactly where the LUT file is and navigate to it. Then it should work, though I can’t be sure because I don’t have Vegas 13.
The LUT files talked about in the link at the original post have the .cube extension.
