Make certain VidCap is closed.
If that doesn't help, shutdown VV and restart. I've had that same issue at times. Probably more an OS issue than a VV one.

How do I shut down vidcap?

In the upper right hand corner of the program window is an X. Click on the X. This will close VidCap.

I'm tempted to ask how you've shut down every other Windows program you've ever used. Sorry, I just had to ask. ;)

Well Mike, when you';re trying to get a 2-hr project out of Vegas and you can get DV in but not OUT, the you panic a little bit. Perhaps you can tell me what vidcap looks like when its OPEN! i don't know that. What is vidcap, if that's the program I go to to capture video, how can it be open when I'm back at the time line. I can't get DV out from the timeline and yes I have all the right buttons pushed. I have discovered that I cannot get the OHCI device to stay in preferences. I click on it , but when I exit and come back, it's back to now. Perhaps you would be so kind as to help me with THAT!

Does the device you're attempting to output to have a "DV-in/DV-out" option? My deck has "Line 1," Line 2" and "DV-In/Out". First time I tried to output to tape I didn't have the proper line selected and got results similar to what you're describing. Also, if you're outputting to a camera, has the "AV In/Out" option (assuming it has one) been selected in the menu? The PD-150, for example, requires this.

Try going into Control Panel, deleting/removing your firewire card. Then scan for new devices. Are you sure nothing is sharing the resource? Sure no other apps are running, including net access or network?
What kind of card is it? Are you sure it's OHCI?

VidCap is the term being used to describe the Video Capture utility. The feature CAN be open when you are on the timeline because it is actually a separate program (although you launch it from an icon within Vegas). So... the question is still a valid one... is that Video Capture program still open when you are trying to print-to-tape from the timeline?

However... another suggestion for you. The Video Capture program can actually also be used to print-to-tape... and in fact that is the primary way I get my stuff out to tape rather than relying upon the pre-renders (which seem to gtet messed up far too easily). So I always render the timeline to a DV AVI file and then go back into the "VidCap" utility to print the AVI file out to the tape.

Many thanks for these suggestions. The vidcap is closed. The file is 2-hrs long. Even though I have a 120 G HD and four hours left on it, it will not print to tape. This morning I was editing the music on the program and suddenly it stopped outputting video. I determined it would, indeed, input video, so the firewire is OK. However, when I go to preference, or click on the icon to send the video to a monitor and get into the VIDEO DEVICE and click on the OCHI complient box, IT DOESN'T STAY ON! I leave preferences and come back and it's back on default (none) again. I think this is my problem. Do any of you have ideas? MAny thanks because a client is waiting for this video.

I'd quickly change one thing at a time. Very likely the FWire port has died. Never hear dof one going but as it connects to the outside world and at risk of voltage transients something might have killed it.
Only thing I'm not certain about is if it'll work in one direction I'd imagine even that requires two way comms which might rule out the hardware.

FireWire is both directions from a wires point of view. Even without device control in the Vegas capture settings.

You could try to find another DV device (eg a camera) and see if your original DV target is able to see that.

If you select the tape navigation options in Vegas capture, it should all work too.

Have you definitely got the project set to the same video standard as your target uses (not switched to NTSC or PAL whichever you don't use). DV targets are particular on the standard they support.

Vegas scrubbing preview doesn't work? No new apps installed that support FW? In control panel you see your OHCI associated with the Microsoft device driver and not the TI one? (TI is old and tired, this has nothing to do with the DV codec which is at a conceptual layer above that).

Good luck
