Firewire and/or IRQ problems

I have a Toshiba laptop with an OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 port built in. I also have added an additional 2-port OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 PC card. The built-in firewire port has an external 4-port powered hub attached and I have two external firewire drives (a Maxtor and a WD) along with an HP 200e DVD+ drive.

I use the PC card firewire adapter to connect to either my camcorder (GL1), my Sony GVD200 Digital 8 VCR, my ADVC-100, or my JVC SRVS20 DV/SVHS VCR. No two devices are connected at one time to this adapter.

The GL1 works fine when connected. The ADVC appears to be working fine also. The Sony GVD200 VCR will capture OK with deck control from VV3 but does not always record using Print To Tape. When I connect the JVC to the firewire port I get a different sound from the PC than the sound I get when connecting the other firewire devices. I can sometimes capture from the JVC (with deck control), however even with deck control I cannot record to the JVC with Print To Tape. It goes through the motions putting the JVC into record and playing the project but nothing actually records.

IRQ 10 has 9 devices assigned to it including both firewire controllers, the video card, audio card, cardbus controller, modem, etc. Since IRQs 2, 4, and 7 have nothing assigned to them I attempted to change the IRQs of the firewire ports. I could not do that as the "Use Automatic Settings" is greyed out and selected so that I can not change anything.

The only other shared IRQ is IRQ 5 which has two USB host controllers assigned to it.

Does anyone know how I can reassign my firewire ports to separate IRQs? Do you think that reassigning one or both of these ports would allow me to also view video on a separate monitor - something which I can not do now?

Not sure if this will solve the PTT problem, but.....Are you comfortable going into the BIOS?
Look for a page in the Bios referring to PnP/PCI Configuration.
Set "PNP OS Installed" to NO.
..."Reset Config. Data"(if there)to: ENABLED(it will reset to disabled on reboot).
..."Resources Controlled by": MANUAL
..."IRQ Resources"/Enter/make sure nothing is set to RESERVED.
..."PCI Latency Timer(clock)" to 64
From here, I would F10 / exit and check in Windows for any improvements on IRQ's.
I've never had to manually reassign INT Pin Assignments in the Bios. I've just juggled PCI cards with much success. I know you have a laptop, so I don't know about that one. Your bios may not be able to be configured as extensive as other PC's.
Is this Win XP?

Join the club. VV3 doesn't work with all decks. More decks are promised for VV4, but until then you'll just have to figure something out. Changing IRQs won't do it, and it's normal for all that stuff to share IRQs.
