Firewire questions (Vegas Video)

I seem to be able to pretty easily capture in SF Video Capture using my ADS Firewire capture card
and my SONY TRV-520 D8 camera.. but I notice the footage has these tiny square artifacts that hang
onto edges and places of high contrast. I am supposing that they are all over - probably misplaced
pixels toggling back and forth - but are only noticable on hard edges because they are toggling
between values of high contrast. Any ideas as to what is happening here?

Can Vegas and/or SF Video capture either

1) Batch capture off a D8 tape?
2) Export or 'print' to tape without having to render the whole project as an AVI?

P.S. Here are my system specs:

Win98 SE
PIII 550
128meg RAM
ASUS P3B-F
Matrox Millenium G400 Max
Matrox Rainbow Runner G-Series
SoundBlaster PCI64
Adaptec 2940UW SCSI controller
Promise ATA100 RAID controller
ADS Pyro Firewire card
SMC ISA NIC

Possible Microsoft codec issue, DX 8 has a newer codec...

As for:
1) and 2) no, but future versions may add these.
