I have a Sony DHR-1000 DV deck. Among its other attributes, it can display time code. We do lots of film transfer -- film to miniDV. For preparing edit decision lists our clients request VHS work tapes with time code display. We do this by displaying time code on the DHR-1000 and creating a VHS tape from the miniDV master. The time code appears on the VHS tape at the lower right-hand corner.
Here's the problem: A client brought back his miniDV masters and asked us to make a DVD for him with the time code displayed on the DVD. ( We use DVD Workshop for encoding and burning.)
When I capture from the DHR-1000 via firewire, no time code is displayed. It is displayed on the monitor for the DHR-1000 (connected via SVHS cable), but does not appear on the captured video in DVD Workshop or on the computer screen.
Any ideas on what's going on? Any work around? Obviously we can make VHS or SVHS copies of client's tapes with time code displayed and caputre these for the DVD, but I'd prefer to use DV/firewire for the transfer to keep the image quality as good as possible.
