The Dynex is not a true OHCI compatible card, further, many of them used the VIA chipset on them. Look at yours, and if it is a VIA chipset, my recommendation is to either return it for a refund and get a supported card, or toss it and spend the 25.00 for an ADS, SIIG, or a little more for the Unibrain or Orange cards.

You also could have some resources giving you grief, but I'll wager first bet on the VIA chipset as being the culprit.

I don't know if the Belkin is a true OHCI card either. Did it come with a software disk that required installation?
Next thing to look at is resources. Have you tried moving the card to a different slot? Can you look in Control Panel and see what resources you're sharing/using? You don't want the 1394 card to be on the same resource as audio or video card.
Next, what MOBO do you have? Does it by chance have a VIA KT233 or 333 chipset?

i have a sound card that has a fire wire port and it install a second 1394 controller within the device manager... and the only thing they share is the BUS, would that create a prob?
now i do get prompted an error mess. cause it tells me that the sound card is improperly installed so im trying to reinstall trhe sound card and go from there

That could create a problem, yes. Different devices allow you to get away (or not get away) with various configurations. Can you disable the 1394 card in your sound card? Is it a Creative card?

im not in the office to remove the card but i assume it is cause i uninstalled it and have to reinstall the sound blaster cause it was telling me that the sound card was not installed properly so i did and it reinstalled the 1394 controller again so i still have two host controllers but now i know which is which but even uninstalling that one i still cant see the device on vegas 4.0. when i remove the wire i hear it ever so often come on and off but vegas 4 fails to see it no matter what.... im affraid to do a fresh install on the OS cause then i have to install all the software on that comp that i didnt install to begin with....i believe who ever built that comp did it without tking into account the variables of the different components they were installing and didnt realize the long run would come to haunt that box... i soo hate picking up someone elses masses.... ill be in tomorrow so ill be able to pull that card to tell you what man, it is... thanks for your help today talk to you soon... if you have a chance go look at what i do visit my site www.thegascomp.com thanks later...

FYI - I use a VIA and it works perfect for me every time.
