First Look

Just downloaded the Beta and cut a 5-minute piece to video--Sync Dialog, VO, Music and Effects about 26 stereo tracks deep without a hiccup or use of the manual. (OK, I did peek a couple of times and extended the buffering to get rid of a few glitches). This is HOT!

Stuff I noticed:

The timecode display flickers when updating. Should I think about a new screen refresh rate?

I didn't find a 'nudge' command. It's often useful to pop an event or group of events earlier or later by the grid intervel (usually frames for me) without having to zoom tight enough for proper mouse resolution. DYAXIS II (r.i.p.) does this with COMMAND+ARROW keys (it's a Mac thing) and SoundScape incorporates it into its 'move' tool.

I'll be watching for the real release.

Interesting you got it to sync to vid...we've been told here that this function is neutered in the Beta! What's your secret cause I need to see this function in action. You can nudge the cursor postion by a frame +/-...zoom in using the up arrow key 5 times and the left/right keys will nudge the cursor by a frame...then just snap the audio clip to the cursor. You can also hit the M key to mark this TC position and don't forget to add it to the cue list. Wow havn't heard mention of the late great Dyaxis...I was an early beta dude on that piece o' history...we also use Soundscape and as a matter of fact I'm testing Vegas with a SS Mixtreme card.

Thanks for the info--I'll give it a shot.

The video in this case was simply an .avi file--not an external piece of tape. Most of what I do in the commercial and long form world involves videotape, but in this case I was testing the system for a multimedia client who wanted to work entirely in .wav and .avi formats but with the power of multitrack editing/mixing. The finished product was rendered back to a file faster than real time.

Sorry for any confusion. I am definitely looking forward to the non-neutered final release.

How does it work with Mixtreme? I intend to buy this piece of hardware, and I was considering Vegas as a
software-end of my system. Any coments on this card? Thanks in advance.
