First Project

I recently completed my first Studio project, a music video for some friends of mine. I could use some feed back on what you think. Here is the link:
My First Video

I did some video editing 20 years ago but it was the old fashioned way with actual editing tape machines. This here fancy computer editing is so much better :>)

Thanks for any input.

Very nicely done bit of work! How much of the "old film" look is from the original video clips vs what you put in there?
One bit of input based on opinion, it might be a nice distraction to occasionally lightly color repeating clips with sepia to break up the b/w, but that's more from a compositional standpoint than anything. Story/clips and music fit very nicely together.

Roger,

That's great! Can you tell your friend that my husband and I really enjoyed the song, too.

There's only one little change to the video I'd make if I were you. The little clip where the guy is drinking is a bit "on the nose" with the message and therefore jars the viewer a little--especially since you've been so subtle up until then and go back to subtley after that clip.

If you have a clip of the young working guy (or any guy) rubbing his face or running his hands through his hair in frustration, or just a clip of a tired, worn-out and worn-down guy sitting with his hat in his hand sort of hunched over, that would be really nice right there.

I really like the clip where the kids are playing skip-around. Finding a clip where the kid looks straight into the camera really sells the whole thing.

Basically I think it's great--just that one little criticism. Hey, but you take that criticism with a grain of salt. What you've done here is way better than anything I've done! :)

By the way, we live in TN, just about 30 miles from Cumberland Gap and the TN-KY-VA border. So here's another appalachian albeit transplanted.

Roger,

Nice work. Loved it!

I'm an old Tennessee boy myself. Born in Greenville and raised in Knoxville. Moved to Austin, TX in 1980 and been here ever since.

It's all old video I got from the Perlinger files, pretty much original. Glad you liked it.

To tell the truth the drinking clip was that last piece I put in. The main thing I was trying to do was make the video match the music and that part of the song talks about "trying everything to ease the pain" and i finally decided to go ahead and use that clip. Appreciate the input, probably take another look at it in that light. Glad you liked it.

Love the music Rogotoo and the film was great, drinking and all. It is the way, it is. I am interested in if you were to do it again , same film in two or three months, after doing some more, I'd bet you would see a big difference. So great start and post it again in a few months. I'll bet you'll look at it differently. I'd like to see your creative thinking after you learned a little more, just to compare. I wish I'd done that.
