First selected button question

The quick version :

Is there a way to not have a button selected when the first menu comes up until they press a direction button on their remote ?

The long version:

I've got a video clip as the background media. There is a " Play " button in the video itself. When it first starts the background kind of warps and then becomes clear. Right now I have a text button with no text over where the " Play " button is in the video. The problem is that if it is already highlighted when the vid first comes on and there is the " warped " video below it, the highlight is obviously not part of the video and is just an ugly square floating there.

Open to suggestions, worth noting is that there is music playing and the end of the " warp " is after the song intro on the first beat.

Another question, is there a way to do what would equate to a " mouseover " - swap one image for another ?

Okay, without ruling out my last questions, is the only way to add media to a dvd to make it a button somewhere ? In other words, if I insert " Empty Button ", I don't see a way to link it to a video file unless that video is already added somewhere. The work around seems to be to make a menu with nothing linking to it, add the video there, than you can link the " Empty Button " to the actual video.

Is there an easier way ?

. . Mutts . .you are the best! . .. still giggling . .. but yes, as people are starting to get into this stuff more and nmore we are gonna be asking more "Me Want!" stuff .. I kknow I've got a whole string of this stuff too . .. Mutts .. didn't want you to feel you were a=out there on yer own - yeah? I know OTHERS have the option of going to see SPOT in person etc etc etc . .and here Iin London the Vegas profile is still well . .. a bit thin .. .

. .I'm listenning too!

I would like to know how to change the "colour" that appears when you are ON a button. There must be a way .. . but I'll wait till you get an answer .. .

. . .Do you think as many poeple who DVD stuff actually come to this Forum or hang out on the Vegas Forum? Maybe you get better responses on DVDA from the Vegas forum? Don't know ...

Grazie

Here's a suggestion: create a video of "warping" background (in Vegas). Add this video to your DVDA project and set its end action to link to the menu. The background of the menu should be the same as last frame of the "warping" video.

This will not work if you require the music to continuously play from the warping video to the menu.

Make your primary button the center of the buttons.

Make a custom highlight mask but don't use a highlight for the center button
only make highlighted objects for the up-down-left-right buttons.

When you arrow in the direction from center the highlight will now appear.

This is somewhat how to make easter eggs.

Only three replies, but great replies. Quality, not quantity.

Grazie, don't you just change the color of the color sets me thinks ?

SonySDB, had that thought but as you mentioned, there is the music. Still a cool way to do things.

RCourtney, think I may try your suggestion first and see how it plays out, otherwise will go with SonySDB's as plan B.

Thanks all;
