first-time use problems...no video!

Just installed Vegas, and am a newbie. I only have clips from my Canon Elura recorded on the SD card, b/c I have yet to instal Firewire--which is coming soon.

These clips work just fine in Windows Movie Maker--admitedly a different animal--but I cannot seem to get ANY video clips into the track pane...nor will they preview. Audio is fine, tho.

Message says "video: stream attributes could not be determined."

Do I need a video card? (It's not specified in the manual). Is there a global setting somewhereI'm missing? I feel sure that the fix is something so basic that I'll whack my head at the answer, but.....

These are .AVI files.

Thanks.

No, you don't need a video card. Your cam records to the SD memory card in a different format than on the tape. I forget the codec it uses (I also have an optura). The videos recorded on the SD card aren't geared for dvd or TV viewing. They are only for playing back on the computer or sending via email. They aren't even close to being as good a video file as recorded to the tape in the Canon unit.

I would get a firewire cable so you capture video from the tape.

thanks....as I suspected. The firewire card is on the schedule ASAP, but I was just thinking that the card was a convienent way to jump right in.....I appreciate your information.
