I have been so frustrated in the ERROR CODE that comes up when Vegas Crashes, mostly because it is giving CODE for failure in the program that most would never understand. However, after continued problems with Vegas 6.0 failing DURING RENDERING, I have discovered the problem and would like to suggest to anyone who may have similar problems to give this a try. It was a TOTAL FIX and I am able to render completely free of crashes because of doing so.
It appears that a CPU harnessed with a great deal of plug and play devices in WINDOWS XP may have this problem... crashing during rendering with V6.0
If you are using a lot of devices, as I do, every PCI slot, (6 total) are used in various and sundry ways, here is the fix. (By the windows people will not suggest you do this... but it works and it has certainly solved the problem!)
Go into DEVICE MANAGER (ie. control panel, Performance and Maintenance, System, Hardware, Device Manager) and change the DRIVER TO YOUR COMPUTER TO STANDARD PC.
You will have to reboot, and when you do be prepared to point to all the drivers you have installed, most will be found automatically... but be sure you have the latest and greatest updates to all the drivers needed on your system.
Once that is accomplished, you will find that VEGAS 6.0 will not crash again with the horror message of FAILURE UNKNOWN... (with over six months of seeing that message I was getting desperate to figure out what was so unknown about the fastest cpu in the market which I own.)
Give it a shot... if you are having this kind of problem and have not found a solve. This solved my problem COMPLETELY. After several days of testing I have not failed ONCE! YAHOO... I am back in business.
