If you have been experiencing problems rendering to Windows Media formats (WMA or WMF) and are running on WindowsXP with SP1, download and run the following fix from Microsoft:

Before I install that file (since i have had problems before w/ quick fixes from MS) what does it do. I found that by just reinstalling Vegas - cures the problem. You DO NOT have to uninstall SP-1, well at least I didn't. Also this glitch only effects Vegas- not my other SOFO products (Acid Pro or Sound).

Thks,

It worked for me. But I'm wondering if that pack language may affect something, cause I'm using Windows XP SP1 Spanish... Is ther a spanish version around?
Thanks!!!

That file is an update of the redistributable Microsoft provides. It installs the necessary system DLLs and registers them so our WM plugin can function. Apparently something did not get registered correctly if XP SP1 was already installed. We did not have to rebuild the plugin because nothing changed that gets compiled in, so running this redist file is all you need to do. There should be nothing language-specific in this update from Microsoft; our plugin handles displaying localized versions of the Custom dialog.

Running this should have corrected problems for all of our applications that use wmfplug2.dll (ACID 4, Sound Forge 6, Vegas 3, etc.). You can see the filename of the plugin from Render As | select WMA or WMV | About. We will investigate this further. Thanks for all your feedback!

However it seems that Win media 9 is not recognised by VV. I see Audio Media 9 but not video? Any suggestins? John I

That is correct, you won't see Windows Media Video 9 in the WM plugin, as it is based on the v8 SDK. A future version of our WM plugin will support v9.

I'm not sure why Windows Media Audio 9 is even showing up (I see it too). There apparently must not be any compatibility issues when it is used with components built using the v8 SDK, so it is allowed to be visible.

WMA9 is built to be backwards compatible all the way back to WMA 6.4 players without the need to update codecs, so it's probably declaring itself to be an older codec.

Hi to all!!!
I'm wondering if there's anyway that I can integrate this WMV fix into a Windows XP SP1 CD, so if I install Windows again, wmv would be already working properly. If SP1 can be integrated into a XP CD, maybe the fix too.
Thanks in advance!!!

I installed this patch. Afterwards, I could not print to tape. I used XP's restore to an earlier time to go back. Whats up with that?
SonyIMC wrote on 11/4/2002, 2:47 PM
TLT, could you provide some specifics to your problem? We have tested the fix and print to tape and cannot repro your issue. Are you printing to NTSC DV? Are you using a camera or a converter. Are you printing via OHCI 1394?

More details could help us narrow this down.

Thank You

No, this isn't possible. However, any future updates or upgrades to our applications that include support for Windows Media v8 will already include this fix as part of the software installation process.

I am running SF 5.0f and SF Batch converter5.0b build 156. When I select Windows Media Audio V8 I get the error "The chosen file format plugin could not be loaded and will be removed from the list. The format may not be allowed to be used in the Batch Converter or the plug in should be reinstalled." I have installed the patch wmfdist2.exe , uninstalled windows media encoder and SF batch converter, reinstalled in different orders and restarted each time and still get the same error, although when I select Windows Video V8 it doesn't give the same error. In sf I have no problem exporting to WM V8 56kbps. I installed it onto another machine also running Windows XP SP1 and same error. For the heck of it I installed it onto my laptop which is also Windows XP SP1 and it does not give the error. Any ideas???

Beware---This fix causes an error when viewing MPG, MPA, and MPE files on the net through IE6 with Windows Media Player...Viewing them was fine for me just prior to the fix installation. I now have to use RealPlayer assigned to those file types.

I had the same problem in IE6 but before installing the update.
I reinstalled Windows and the service pack with this update and the bug in IE6 is gone...

For info, XP SP1 not only screws up the WMV, WMA.

It damages more than that, season VV user would have notice the difference.

Really makes me wonder what MS is up to in 'dishing' out this torpedo 'wacking' VV?

But in the mean time, re-installing the OS is the only CURE.

Is this fix also applicable when trying to render to an avi file also?

I just read on the cow forum that the SDK v8.2 Vegas plug-in is using WMV9 to render new .wmv files?, Is that correct?
