Fix to AVCHD rendering in 1080i!

USE A DIFFERENT PROGRAM!!!!

I was baffled why in the world Sony would come out with such a great editing video, why I would spend hours on a project, only to be shot dead with disappointment when inevitably the project would never render to blu ray. Heck, the program would crash just scanning for drives. I took my new quad core 2.33 with 8gb of ram cpu back and got a new 2.67 ghz gateway 6800 fx cpu with quad core i7-920 processor with ati hd 4850 graphics cared with 1 gb of video mem and 3 gb of ram with windows vista 64 and an added lg blu ray burner. The result? I could render an actual project to bluray... using Corel Video Studio Pro X2. Yes, it seems to have all the same features of Vegas including 5.1 sound, titles, transition fx and a starting menu. On top of it, it seems more intuitive and easier to learn than Vegas. I made a blu ray disc in 1080i output complete with background music added, titles, transitions and a start menu which included the beach in the background and the start to Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly recycling for the first 10 seconds of the song like a regular dvd menu. The picture is perfect, the sound is great and it took about an hour or two to render and burn on a Panasonic 2x blu ray disc. My biggest complaint was the playback within the Corel program of the project. However, I downloaded a patch and it appears to be fixed. You can download the demo for 30 day trial to see if it will work for you. I must warn that the patch to fix the playback bug will only work with the purchased version as it won't install with the trial. I can vouch it does work with the purchased version. What's more is the program is 40 bucks cheaper than Vegas! I'm baffled how Sony comes out with AVCHD cameras (mine is sdr-hr 12) and comes out with software to edit, but is riddled with bugs so badly you can't even make a workable blu ray disc. Heck, even trying to render a movie in 1080i and then burning with another program doesn't work, because Sony will only render the picture WITHOUT the audio. Now does that make any sense to anyone!? Anyway it IS possible with the some major cpu power and the right program to actually render a 1080i movie! Good luck to everyone!

I understand your frustration. I had the same problem, dont know what Sony thinks about it and why it takes so long to fix it.
Meanwhile, what I do is render into intermediate uncompressed 1080i YUV and then back to the AVCHD. It's a little bit a pain in a butt as when working on several lenghy projects at a time I got all my 2 terrabyte harddrive space maxed up pretty quick. Still waiting when Sony would take some time and pay attention to the AVCHD rendering issue.

I've tried Corel12 a while ago. Does it still insert freeze frames at the transitions? That was annoying to have those extra fames looking like jumpcuts. Just wondering if that bug has been fixed since then. Otherwise Corel is a good programm, I agree.

Perhaps the moderator of this forum could add a sticky with a link to Corel Video Studio Pro X2 for disgruntled sony customers ;-)

Haven't had that issue with Corel personally. I'm using the latest version of Video Studio Pro X2. I've been happy with the transitions in the program so far. It is strange that Sony has all of these AVCHD cameras and yet their software isn't up to speed. My biggest problem with Corel is reviewing playback of the project in the software. For some reason, as the project gets bigger, the playback gets choppier. The update did improve it a lot though.

It's about time to make "AVCHD rendering issue" a sticky thread on this forum.
