Super by Erightsoft.
That's a clarification, not a comment or a question.

[Link=http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html]Super@[/link] is Super!

PS: That's an understatement, not a comment.

Super is software and Super may be super.

But -- it's one of the most aggravating, drawn-out, hard-to-find download pages I've ever dealt with.

Avidemux 2.5 is also very good and I find it easier to use (i.e., less confusing) than Super. They are both just GUI's for a set of command line tools so the quality is the same.

"... it's one of the most aggravating..."

Agreed! I tried it and found it thoroughly confusing. 'Bout the most complicated application I've tried to use in years.

If one wants a simpler interface (with fewer settings) try Format Factory.
Now that's a comment.

I've been getting errors converting .flv from youtube in super. What setting are you folks using?

Thanks!

FLV (35) from YouTube pretty much stinks.
MP4 (22) is much better quality and bitrate.

This is exactly why I don't use Super anymore... too many settings.

I use Avidemux, set the video for MJPEG and the audio for PCM and render. It's that simple. MJPEG files are very "edit friendly" and Vegas Pro 9.0 handles them natively now.

I've found MediaCoder download to be excellent at a lot of format conversions, although it may be too complex for the casual user.

OK,

I downloaded the freeware progam Pazera FLV to AVI Converter 1.2 and it worked flawlessly on ten or so flv files I am preparing for a Political Science presentation on Thursday.

Give it a try.
