Fonts

Is there a way to make my fonts crisp and clear when rendering as 1280x720? I'm putting lyrics on top of a motion background and the letters have slightly jagged edges. Is it because fonts are in SD and not HD? I have my font properties set to match my video (1280x720). Thanks.

Is your rendered video fuzzy or only the display within Vegas? If the latter then set the display properties for the Vegas monitor to full/best.

I'm viewing it on an HD video projector. The font isn't fuzzy, it's just the edges aren't crisp.

Try setting your font properties to twice the size of the project, i.e. 2560x1440. The fonts themselves are almost certainly vector, so they'll be generated at the text event's resolution. Vegas seems to soften them a bit, so starting out at double the project resolution helps.

The other battle you'll have is colorspace. Many HD formats are 4:2:2 instead of 4:4;4, which means that the color information only has effectively half the resolution of the luminance. This is generally unnoticeable with most natural images that your camera might capture, but fonts introduce bold colors with sharp lines that may not translate well into 4:2:2. In order to combat this you need to use bolder fonts rather than finer fonts, and muted colors rather than strong.

Is there a one-step way to change the font size for all instead of going into each text file individually? I purchased Vegasaur but not sure that program will even do it?? Also, would the type of alpha setting used affect the crispness of the text? Thanks for your help!

Yes, it will. Under Effects, Select Titles and Text. There, you can adjust all of your font properties and apply it to selected titles. Works well.

I assume that you are using vector fonts, not bitmap fonts. Only vector fonts are fully scalable.
In my case I don't see any difference in doubling the fonts resolution. Resolution 1:1 for me is enough. Maybe because I use sans-serif fonts.
To match the media resolution with project resolution I usually use Vegas script:
Tools->Scripting->Resize generated media.
