KILLER app! just downloaded the demo and diggin in!!
Yes - reading the manual as i write this,, but... but, anyone happen to have it all figured out already? Like step by step :)
wondering too how you setup a transparency export (so, like vitalforces asked in previous post).. you could say creat a snowing effect and overlay it with 'real' footage in vegas?
thanks
Please let me know if you figure out how to line up a transparency export from ParticleIllusion into Vegas with a scene? I just render my scene in Vegas - convert it to an avi file - load the scene as a background into ParticleIllusion and add my effects render it in ParticleIllusion. You can then add the scene back into your Vegas timeline. This way you can match the scene to the effect and adjust the timing, shape, movement and intensity of the effect.
ParticleIllusion 3.0 is an excellent product and it's creator Alan Lorence will get right back with you if you have any problems.

ParticleIllusion is an outstanding product. I only have version 2.0 but I use it to spice up intros and endings. Once I had a rainbow flow down the screen using a diagonal wipe to reveal it slowly but it was missing something. I used particleIllusion to add sparkles to the end of the rainbow as it traveled down to earth and it really gave it a magic appearance.
Iām surprised the reviewer made the following statement:
"If you are using this application in a 3D environment, or even trying for greater realism in a traditional composite, the ability to animate the particles in 3D space would be a bonus. For example, if you were exploding a building you could create masks in 3D space that would allow some flaming particles to fall behind an object (like a car), and some particles to fall in front of that car."
I believe this can be achieved by using layers and blockers i.e, the blockers on the lower layer would not affect the particles on an upper layer allowing the particles on the lower layers to go behind an object (like a car) while others go in front.
Also, if you use the Offset and Angle parameters you can move the camera without affecting the emitters which aid in giving a 3D illusion. In other words, if the camera is panning and I move an emitter with the video, it may leave a trail because it thinks I want to move the emitter in space. By using Offset and Angle, it will move the emitter along with the camera pan without leaving a trail. This is great for keeping your smoke going straight up in the air while the camera is moving and panning across a scene.
PI is a great app with a lot of really cool preset emitters that can also be customized. It's a lot easier to learn than I thought it would be. You can make a customized PI template in Vegas and use it when rendering background footage. Just select the "Default Template (uncompressed)" and uncheck the "Create an open DL" box at the bottom. Then uncheck the "include audio" tab. Save this template as Particle Illusion for future renders.
I also render uncompressed AVI out of PI and put it on the Vegas timeline for final render in the final project.
