Force load missing footage - media offline

Hey all -

this is something that has bugged me for a long time...

If I open an old project, Vegas will immediately ask me to locate any missing footage, and will give me the option to point to various hard drives that happen to be on-line. If I select the correct drive the footage will load and all is well.

Working as I do with MANY various drives, sometimes the missing drive is not on-line or immediately identifiable.

Now with my new (thanx John) "Where is it " software, I can easily locate the missing drive and mount it.

So the question is:
How can I force Vegas to reload the missing footage w/o closing the file and reopening (which will force the search)?

Many thanks in advance, as I'm sure it can be done and I KNOW one of you will have the answer.

Certainly been a bit of a bug bear for a while with me too.
Haven't had the chance to check this out but I *think* if you go into Project Media you might be able to paste the full path to the missing file into there.
Hopefully someone else can chime in.

If I know where it is, say on another drive I need to slot into my snap-drive unit, I use "Replace". Of course it doesn't Replace it, it just thinks it has! All I am doing is giving it directions so it can find its way home again . . . ahhh!....

yea, Grazie!

Best answer to this question (and I have seen several), yet!

Sure . . it does come with a caveat: If you ARE replacing then whatever footage you are replacing it with will be revealed. So, be absolutely sure that it IS the footage you want - and not some aged Aunt that has just lost her dentures to a tough scone! - Well, on the other hand maybe you do?

So just to be clear, you do the "Replace" in Project Media or on the T/L?

My only reservation about this approach regardless of where you do it is you've got to go back through the find / browse phase. I could be wrong but I suspect what Victor is getting at is he's found it in WhereIsIt? and would like to transfer the 'find' to Vegas.

If this esteemed group doesn't have an answer, I have to assume there simply isn't one - seems like an easy fix for Sony - but what do I know?

Sorry Grazie - "replace" doesn't work for me, because once I've located the missing drive and mounted it...
and restart the show...
Vegas will not only find the missing scene - it will ask (ever so politely) something on the order of , "I also found ALL these other clips - should I replace them too?" (not exact verbiage, but I'm too lazy to boot the Vegas machine.)

So unless someone else has found the "secret" button - I guess I'll just have to restart the show - oh sigh.

Maybe what you need isGridiron Flow:

Certainly looks attracttive, works on OSX and Windows with FCP and all things Adobe but not Vegas, sigh.

I like the double "are you sure you want to delete this file?"
My only concern is its another process running in the background. Probably not an issue if you're running with a bit of RAM and CPU to spare.
