Forcing the Timeline Playhead to stop

Mohammed_Anis wrote on 5/2/2020, 1:28 PM

Hi guys,

Is there anyway I can adjust a setting where I can force the playhead to stop the minute I make to an edit? There are times I forget to do that manually and given some files I use are heavy on the VEGAS processing already - doing something like accidentally deleting a track while the playhead is playing seems to be an easy way to get VEGAS to crash.

I realize that this is a DAW characteristic that works for VEGAS - but sometimes, its just not needed.

If you have a Contour Shuttle controller, you could create a macro that would do that.

No controllers I'm affraid

I honestly think this should be a feature in VEGAS.

This could seriously add further to its stabilization.

Get in the habit of pressing the 'k' key before making edits during playback.

As the post stated - I'm aware that manually pausing is an option.

Sorry lads, but it doesn't look like there's much can be done on this one. It's fine.

I didn't say "be aware that pausing is an option" I said "get in the habit"

Literally, make it a habit to press k before you do anything to the timeline that affects media placement. I've saved myself untold hours by building up that habit. Because I hate rebooting just because VP crashed and left the GPU in a bad state.

Hopefully they'll increase stability and you won't need the option your asking for, but I doubt it'll be soon. VP has had this problem for *years*

I really recommend the Contour Shuttle. It gives you several programmable buttons and the ability to create a macro that would do exactly what you want. It also has a shuttle and job knob for easy navigation.

I've always set spacebar to pause/play in the options.

Appreciated!

@monoparadox +1

That's always one of the very first options I set in VP! I've long been surprised that the pause/play spacebar isn't turned on by default. Luckily it's easy to change that setting and doing so became muscle memory for me a long time ago.

Note to self (everyone else please look away -- the note that follows is a reminder for mine eyes only): Figure out a clever, kick-booty signature that suggests I'm completely aware of how to properly and exhaustively party on and that I, in fact, engage in said act on a frequent and spontaneous basis. All joking aside, listing my computer's properties is a futile endeavor. I edit multimedia in a local television station newsroom that has Vegas Pro installed on several machines with widely varied specs. We began editing non-linearly with Pinnacle Studio Version 8. That didn't last long before we upgraded to Vegas Video Version 4, then to Vegas Pro 10.
