it has a check box at the end of the install to "install internal codecs". Make sure it's not checked.

I've used Format Factory for a couple of years now. Amazing free tool; it can handle [almost] any video, audio or image format you can throw at it. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times it has crashed. On my system, anyway, Format Factory has never had any impact at all on Vegas.

@ Rocky: I'm curious why you advise that the "install internal codecs" box be left unchecked. I've installed FF and checked the box, and I've installed it and left it unchecked. I noticed no difference in the performance of FF, Vegas or anything else. Should I have?

installing codec packs can write over codecs you have with ones of poorer performance or quality. It can basically screw up your system to the point where you have to wipe the disk and reinstall windows.

Codec packs do not uninstall cleanly if at all.
