Format for rendering sub-clips

I can't believe I'm the first to ask this but couldn't find a relevant post.

I have a short 'signature' sub-clip that includes a brief animation and then my logo and web URL - total length 12 seconds. Think of it as a 'video signature block' to put at either the start or end of my main videos. The sub-clip comprises three video tracks and two audio tracks, and - like all my projects - it is formatted as HDV 720-24p (1280x720, 23.976 fps) video, 48kHz 16 bit audio.

I would like to have this sub-clip available to drop into other video projects and assume that the best way to achieve this is to render the sub-clip into a single media asset that I can subsequently drop into projects.

I usually use Handbrake to render the output of completed projects in h.264 .mp4 for upload to YouTube etc.

My question is this: What is the best way to 'can' the sub-clip so that it's readily available for dropping into my projects with no loss of quality.

I'm using Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12 - not Pro.

Thanks for your help in advance - especially if you have actual experience of the best way to do this. :)

Do you want to save it for use as a standard DV/DVD media file or a high-def AVCHD media file? What are the project setttings of the project you'll be using it in?

The projects are almost always HDV 720-24p (1280x720, 23.976 fps) that I then render using Handbrake to h.264 .mp4

You could use MXF or Avid DnXHD.

Dear Alistair

Thanks for the response. I will try rendering a subclip in .mov format using the DNxHD codec and see how I get on.

BTW - until I upgraded to Movis Studio Platinum Suite 12 I used Movie Studio 10 and found your tutorial on using the Avid DNxHD codec and Handbrake simply wonderful (great tutorial voice BTW):

When I first upgraded to MSPS12 I couldn't find how to access the settings options that featured in your tutorial video. Then I found a post in the Vegas Pro 12 forum pointing to this: http://johnrofrano.com/training/video-tutorials/avid-dnxhd-template-for-vegas-pro/

This helped me find how to get into MSPS12 and create a rendering template using setting information from your video above.

I had already seen your comments elsewhere on using QT Version 7.6 rather than 7.7. and the need to install QT7.6 first, then the Avid DNxHD codec, before creating the render template.

Thanks again for the excellent video tutorial.
