E-mail sent to the forum webmaster:

Forum Webmaster,

Please note the thread in the forum called, "Forum Changed" located at http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=304554&Replies=24&Page=0

The forum members are wondering why you dropped the ability to display the name and URL of the member (if they so choose to include it).

Part of the incredible "community" that this thread has created is based on our side conversations (often initiated by contacting the person via their listed URL).

Can you respond in the forum?

Thanks,

Ted (aka Chanimal)

P.S. This e-mail has been posted within the forum

Reponse From Sony:
"We appologize for the removal of the personal Info ,due to budget cuts we reccommend you all wear name tags when loging into this Forum."

But seriously remember awhile back the thread on some forum suggestions, I'm thinking this is maybe just an oversite /work in progress or part of some better changes to come.I cant think why they would remove it on purpose an not say anything.
It's a great forum, and thanks for the other thread Kelly, I too have had you and Chanimal bookmarked for a long time.

LOL!

I can see this guy walking the alleys of New York. At least the the guys beating him up would know his name.
At the machine shop where I work our supplied work shirts have our name and the company logo on them. Maybe I should start wearing them when I'm going out to bars to meet women? :-)

Too bad this isn't like the Canopus forum where you can include a picture with your posts.... you could take you picture with your shirt on and display it every time you make a post!!! Maybe you could put your URL on your back???

I received the following from our Webmaster:

"I had to remove it per a Sony policy regarding the handling on users personal information. We're working on creating a new "my account" area of the website, and once that's up, there's a possibility we'll give users the option to display their personal profile on a forum page. If all goes well, the user profile page will provide even more info than it used to."

Policies like this are usually setup by the legal counselors to mitigate risk. One time, I had a president that didn't want competitor's to have access to our users.

However, there can always be a brief legal disclaimer along with a check mark that says, "allow my user profile information to be publicably viewable."

Regarding the access to users, let a competitor try to pull away a Vegas user--I personally send competitive promotions (i.e. Pinnacle) directly to Sony for their business intelligence and to help them become even more competitive.

I hope they follow through quickly and set this up--our ability to collaborate and network off line helps increase the strength and value of this community.

Umm...if I'm not mistaken, wasn't ther information volunteered to begin with? If not, people had the choice of whether or not to display it (I can't remember which it was). How can there be legal problems if the information is voluntarily given? Sorry, but that's just stupid.

That's why i started the "Personal information" thread. Volunteer there if you wish!

Have you ever seen the 1 inch of micro type under an IBM display ad? (a wast of space). That's highly conservative attorney's trying to keep their jobs. I've had several of our corporate attorneys that were a joy to work with, while a few were a pain and one declared that only the CEO could override them.

Who knows what "Sonic Foundry" folks (Sony Converts) have run into. They're bright, but they are part of the corporate beast now and we all know how "policies" can become law.

We'll see if they can do anything about it--I think they see the benefits of our request.
