Maybe someone can tell me if this is just me or if something changed with the search?

I used to get hits based on a word, now I get hits based on the LETTERS. Yeah, you hear correct. I just did a search for Echo Gina and I got every post that had the word "Echo", the word "Gina", plus every post that had a word that *contained* the letters "gina" - so every post with a word like "original" in it was returned. This is not what used to happen - clicking on "Match all search terms above" really is pointless now and seemed to do nothing. The first hits that were returned were mainly about "echo" issues and somewhere had the word "original" in them.

Anyone else find this annoying? Or is it just me?

Something is not the same though. When I used to do a search and had the "Match all search terms above" clicked it would look for, and return, threads/posts that had - well, the "search terms" in it. So if one put in "gina" it would look for the word "gina", not any word with the letters g, i, n or a in sequence (original) it.

*EDIT* - Ok, I know something changed. I did a search that is a "favorite" of mine - EDL. This search used to bring back threads that talked about, or mentioned EDL's. Now it brings back threads with words like needle, Needless and admittedly. Matter of fact in doing a search of all forums returned 2825 hits, and in the first 10 only one thread had anything to do with an edl. (ironicly a post made by me.)

before this thread goes down in flames (pun intended) my question was not about how search terms are handled. My question was about if the search function here, for these forums, had changed. And I edited my post above to reflect that it had with my edl example.

In direct response to your question: how are you going to tell the computer which characters it should disregard?

This is handled many ways by various search engines. One of the easiest is Google by putting "" around the phrase. Other engines allow for AND or NOT. Some use + to mean AND. However I will point out that for these forums one could type in a term and it would look for the word, not letters contained in the word...which is what is going on right now. So something has for sure changed.

Not sure what that has to do with my original question but ok, I'll play. I googled "Echo Gina", what I had searched for here, and all the top results went direct to pages that had to do with the Echo Gina.

I don't know if it's different than it was, but "Match search term..." and "Match ANY search term..." give the same results. So what's the point of having both? If you have noticed a difference, maybe it's because of this.
