frame size and file size

Reducing the height of my video (in project properties) by 50% has no effect of the file size of the rendered project. Shouldn't my rendered movie file size be half as big? Half of the video image is no longer displayed (which is exactly what I want)- so I would expect the file size to reduce significantly. It would be very helpful to cut my file size in half.
I have VMS 6.

Thanks
Ian

No. If the bitrate is always the same, then you will have no change in the filesize. You need to customize the bitrate manually,.==,

I have never played with the bitrate before. I guess I don't understand. I always assumed the bitrate was the rate at which the bits are used to produce the image. So - if I put out only 1/2 of the image (by reducing the height by 50%) - and I keep the bitrate the same - what is actually happening? Does the video image quality significantly improve? When I produce some sample test files, I don't notice any difference in video quality between a full screen and one with a height reduced by 50%. Am I not looking close enough?
Thanks

Bitrate is how many bits per second is used for the audio and video -- no matter the resolution used. So, learn to adjust the bitrates. You don't even tell us what resolution you are after, so without this information I can't suggest to you a sensible bitrate.
