Hmmmmm.

"Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.

Adobe morons DID release this free for a week, and then "changed their mind" and posted up that retraction. Tons of people hit their servers downloading it and they figured out THEIR snafu. When I saw this, I searched high and low for a stinger and found none, and snagged it as well.

Why didn't they make one last patch that made OWNER's reg code continue to work?
Why do they still host the download and give out a free reg code direct to the public if they don't want to?

They shut down the old dusty, dated servers that ran this thing - which makes sense.
And all this free controversy leads to "advertising" and potential upgraders during their cloud flight.

My perspective and opinion only.

They don't run on Win 7/8, so :(

My dad's copy of Vegas 8 works on Win 7 so I guess SCS did a better job of forward compatibility then Adobe, or Adobe crippled their old software with a patch at some time.

Dunno about CS2, but I've had AE CS4 for yonks and it runs fine on Win 7. (Never tried on Win 8)

Anyone heard about this?

http://pando.com/2014/10/13/cloud-this-adobe-has-been-screwing-art-students-out-of-the-cs6-licenses-they-paid-for/

Adobe is one company I simply do not trust anymore. They are so invested into aggressively moving people to the "slave cloud" nothing would surprise me now. I would not be surprised if they try to cancel my CS6 license or make it somehow unworkable in future versions of windows.

CS4 runs on 8.1 ...

While Adobe CS2 might not run on Windows 8.1, several of its programs like Photoshop CS2 do (according to Microsoft): Windows Compatibility Center.

And there is a work-around for Photoshop C2 in Windows 7 (and maybe other CS2 programs): Microsoft Community Windows 7 Question.

Might help somebody.

A colleague of mine was filming and editing in the Australian outback, well away from any internet connections. Adobe at that time had the practice of randomly requiring users to validate their copy of CS4 or 5 (forget which). This was clearly impossible in a remote location so my colleague used a hacked copy just to get the work done. Adobe looked really stupid then and even more so given their attitude to non-cloud users.
Personally, I had such horrible crashing and other issues with Premiere 6, years ago, that I was totally turned off Adobe (also by their pricing!).
For years I have done all of my graphics using PaintShop Pro and Xara Designer Pro and my video with Vegas, VASST plugins, New Blue and recently Boris Red. Vastly cheaper and I'm welcomed by those companies rather than insulted by Adobe. No brainer for me!
