A Google search will bring up hundreds of sound effects, BA, the vast majority of which are free and virtually all are safe to download.

If you'd prefer to purchase a library of professional sound effects, go to http://www.smartsound.com/sonicfire/music.html#soundEffects. They sell a number of terrific libraries of music and sound for prosumer and professional use.

Thanks for the link Steve but these are far too many $ for the few times that I will use them. I was aware of 'Google' and indeed have tried that route. That said, I decided to post here in the forum believing that I am not the only one who has considered this question and perhaps can learn from those having gone before who have discovered some very good sites.

You're correct, you're not the only one who has considered this question.

Do a Search (of this forum, link above) and expand the date to "Any Date" and you'll find a number of threads that have the links you seek.

So, you're looking for an organization that has free sounds?

http://www.freesound.org/index.php

You'll find lots of stuff there -- all kinds of specific sounds, ambient sounds, etc. Just search for "surf", etc. Much of it is high quality and is recorded by "sound geeks", for lack of a better term, who enjoy recording stuff and often do so with very nice equipment.

Be sure to check the licensing agreement for whatever clips you might use. In most cases you probably need to add a little credit to the end of your slide show to give credit to the original submitter.

ADDED: For "low cost" the footage firm sells DVDs with sound effects for less than $9 per disc shipped. These are pretty high quality effects also -- I believe they are the same sound fx as the old Janus Sound Library:

And MSmart is right (posted while I was still typing my reply) -- search this forum and you will probably turn up previous answers to this question.
