Freeware VV3 transition

sdmoore wrote on 2/5/2003, 2:03 PM
Hi,

I've written a transition plugin for Vegas Video for a particular project
I'm working on. The transition basically explodes the screen into cubes. The
faces of the cubes have the 'A' and 'B' clips on them. The cubes are then
spun around and put back together again to display the 'B' clip.

I'm releasing this as freeware so if you want it you can get it here

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks for the freeware. Sounds just right for an over-the-top home movie thing featuring my rowdy, "explosive' nephews....

Geezz, Scott !!!
Just to humiliate myself ... how long did it take you to make *this* ?

I wonder if you need some good ideas for your next project ... :-DDD

Ah, let it be me doing this ...

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments - you made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 8o)

sqblz asked how long it took ... well, about 4 days. I was only able to do it so quickly because I found some sample code on how to map a bitmap to a quadrilateral. The 3D stuff is actually quite straight forward. Plus, since I was laid off last year I was able to work on it full time.

As for making any more plugins ... I'm sure there are other developers reading these forums - suggest a plugin you'd like to see and who knows ... maybe someone will produce one!

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks,

I have not tried it yet, but if the the list of users above me say it is great, it has to be.

Again, thanks

Another, big, THANKS! Very cool and useful transition. I've already replaced a couple of SF Zooms with it in a project I'm finishing up.

Nice. Thanks for the freebie. Write a few more and we'll help that unemployment situation by sending a few bucks your way.

Scott,
That name of yours has a classic ring. I salute you with a quote from the Official Scotty Moore site:

When I heard Heartbreak Hotel, I knew what I wanted to do in life. It was as plain as day. All I wanted to do in the world was to be able to play and sound like that. Everyone else wanted to be Elvis, I wanted to be Scotty.

I'm not one who uses transitions, but occasionally there are exceptions that confirm the rule. Your solution is very good, very usable. Thank you.

Scott, as they say in latin world, "es de buen nacido ser agradecido"...THANK YOU!!
hey maybe you and Satish should team up...
sdmoore wrote on 2/6/2003, 4:21 AM
Hi MrEd,

The plugin was written in C++ and used the plugin SDK found on Sonic Foundry's download page. With a transition, the SDK basically gives you two input frames and a value representing the progress of the transition. You use these to generate an output frame that gets passed to VV.

Scott:

Cool, I'm looking forward to trying this transition, but I see you now have two versions available, Vegas 3 and Vegas 4 -- why's that? install directory? Because we didn't change the plug-in API.

Did the plug-in SDK tell you everything you needed to know, or did we need to help with anything (like DirectX version, etc.)?
