Freeze/Crash: Vegas with Midiman Delta 1010

JoeDoria wrote on 1/16/2000, 10:50 PM
Hi,

I am consistently reporducing feezes/lockups with Vegas
when pressing stop during playback (although there are
other weird freeze repros). This basic functionality error
has me extremely angry. Your testing crew needs a wake-up
call.

software - Vegas
audio Hardware - Delta 1010 (latest driver - 4.1.18.14 /
panel vers 1.01.09)

Best repro possible & other freeze scenarios:

- I record 8 tracks mono (anything above 2 mono tracks
really)...ok so far.
- I go to playback the audio for 1st time...usually ok.
- I start and stop playback (play and stop button) and
eventually I get the freeze (stop button depressed)...big
freeze (I must ctrl-alt-del to close Vegas)

another crash scenario:
- I recorded 8 tracks mono
- playback 8 tracks - usually a freeze.....but this time my
RAM usuage just keeps climbing and climbing...all while
vegas is frozen. Sporadic so it's hard to track.

another:
- I recorded 8 tracks mono
- Insert FX chnls (1 or 2 ..)
- Freeze upon playback

Now I'm ex-tester/head audio technician and am well veresed
on system configuration and software setup. I know IRQ
memory conflicts when I see it and everything else under
that roof.

Here is my home system with the problems...followed by
software setup. I re-formatted and re-installed everything
to solve or try and track these errors. Here goes:

- PII 450mHz, Abit BH6 MB (latest bios - nv)
- 196meg PC-100 ram
- Midiman Delta 1010 audio card
- Creative PCI128 (for system sound/games and junk)
- Creative Banshee 16meg video card AGP
- Adaptec 2940UW (latest BIOS)
hard disks:
internal - C:\ = Quantum Fireball 3.2 uw ---> JVC r2626 cd-
r (terminated)
External - D:\ = Seagate Barracuda 4.5 UW ---> E:\ =
seagate Barracuda 4.5 UW (terminated)
IDE - F:\ = 20 gig UDMA 66 seagate

for latest repro (still freezes):
- formatted all and re-installed Win98
- installed Midiman Delta 1010 (latest driver - that
states all crashes with CoolEdit and Vegas are fixed)...and
all other hardware with their latest drivers (I always keep
the latest drivers)
- installed SF 4.5e
- Installed Vegas 1.0b

Even after a clean re-install.....I am still getting these
FREEZES....EVERYTIME!!

I paid $541.00 for your porduct which Midiman promised was
100% compatible with Vegas.........and now after wading
through these posts on the forum....I am starting to think
the errors stem from Vegas.....Not my Delta 1010 latest
driver - 4.1.18.14 / panel vers 1.01.09.

Please reply with any answers or anything that might be
able to help these matters. (Yes - I have also contacted
support...but they have been LESS than remotely helpful).

If this problem isn't addressed we are looking at a full
return on Vegas.

Please reply,
Joe Doria

I am stuck here guys....this is outrageous!

Hi Joe
Does your system crash with Acid or Sound Forge?

Don't have ACID.

I do have Cooledit Pro 1.2....and it WAS crashing with that whenever
I would cancel/close out a 1st record of multitracks...and start a
new one. Set up again for multitracks....and it says the drivers were
in use (re-boot was only answer to reset or "close" the drivers).
Now with their latest driver...cooledit works "ok" (although rather
"clunky" if you know what I mean).

Amazingly - it multitracks over and over just great with Cakewalk
7...but I don't like Cake7 for any audio recording (plus only 16bit
file support)

Works ok (I think) with SF 4.5 (cause it's not trying to access more
than 2 ins I would guess). It hasn't crashed (4.5)...but I wouldn't
say I trust it 100% based on delta/vegas errors.

*I tested all this again after formatting/re-installing my system
clean..just OS, vegas, SF 4.5, and all latest hardware drivers.
Still freezes in Vegas.

It looks like either Vegas or Delta 1010...or both. (sigh)

thanks...I'm hoping a fix arrives soon.,

Hi
I was talking to one of the guy's who works in one of our studio he
said a friend had that card and had the same problems the guy took it
back and got a darla and the system worked fine after that he stayed
with the darla.I beta tested Vegas on Darla, Gena, Motu-2408,Audio
Media IIpc,And for the most part it ran Very well yes we had some
crashes like trying to record 24 tracks at once on EIDE drives,I have
a system almost like youres,PII 450w 512mb no SCSI. I know this does
not help you but I will try to see if I can find some one who will
let me try out that card,we have a friend who owns a music store here
in El Paso
Take care George Ware

Thanks George,

It doesn't help much but at this point I'll take anything.

I had the Event Gina...and I upgraded (or thought I was) to the Delta
1010. I need more than 2 ins for the home studio (as you know a
Hammond B-3 is a lot to haul so the thought of home studio makes me
grin)

I don't multitrack more than I record my Hammond trio and piano
trios/quintets - and I want the control that comes with more
INs.....although I'll remix with my samples, etc. from time to time.

I use it for jazz recordings (sorta Jimmy Smith meets Metallica at
times).... and that requires multitracking live 3-8 channels (which
this system can handle easily). Rarely do we overdub in jazz as you
probably know.

I agree with ya though....the Gina would work great (I assume) if I
didn't do any of this type work.
But.....the reviews, magazine ads,hype, and box state 10 IN/10
OUT....so far I havn't seen squat from this rig/vegas.

Excuse my frustration...it's been a while of "down-time" already.

thanks...hope you (or anyone) can help,
Joe Doria
