Is there a way to freeze the end of a video clip to make it look like a picture? I know you can capture the last frame but I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do it. I'd like to eventually end up with an effect that makes it look like a picture of the video clip is being taken and thus the clip freezes and looks like a photo.
Capturing the last frame is probably the best (only?) way to do it. Given all the other things you can add to the effect, like shutter noise, flahbulb pops (how retro!), fading to white and putting the picture in a frame, capturing the last frame isn't much of an overhead!
Saving the preview window as a PNG (or JPG) is probably the most reliable way to do it.
If the frame you want happens to be the very last frame of a captured clip -- i.e. actually the last frame in the individual file -- you can right-click on the event and select Switches, then uncheck the Loop option. This will have the clip hold the last frame for as long as you stretch out the event (rather than looping back to the start of the clip again).
But for the most part, saving a still shot is the best way. Make sure your preview window is set for Best/Full, find the exact frame you want, and save it. Use ALT-Left Arrow and ALT-Right Arrow to step a frame at a time to find just the right frame.
