Friendly WARNING--delete Extras Folder

Twice in the last six months, I've produced a DVD using the previous project's Properties and forgotten to delete the Extras Folder path. The first time, there was only one copy made and of course I replaced it with profuse apologies. This time, 130 copies had to be re-done. Lots more apologies and some lost revenue.

My advice to myself, "From now on, always start with the default project Properties and tweak it as required".

Hope this advice saves some others from similar embarrassing moments.

Mark

In what way were the discs on which the Extras folder existed, considered defective?

I've seen a few older players hiccup and grumble if there's *anything* other than the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders in the root of a burned disc. It's pretty rare, but it does happen. That's why i always include the AUDIO_TS folder on every disc. Some players have a hissy if it's not there.

I think the original poster's point is just that he tried to re-use the properties of one project on another project, so he ended up with discs that had an Extras folder (and files) (as set in the previous project) that were not relevant to the new project.

They weren't defective or non-functional it some way -- they just had content that they were supposed to.

Rob, you've got it exactly. Irrelevant content ended up on 130 copies because the master disc I created mistakenly contained Extras content from a previous project.

Perhaps nobody else has had this happen but I thought it was worth the warning.

Although it's never happened to me, I'd say it's worth the warning. I have re-used projects now and again when they were similar enough -- I just didn't happen to have Extras folders for those projects.

Can you imagine using an Al Kaeda DVDA project, Saving as to start a project for a Tel Aviv Tourist Video, and forgetting about the Extras Folder!! ;)
