Frustrated - Ext monitor preview with Canon ZR Camcorder not working

Sigh.

You know how it is. I have the new TV in my setup now, but cannot wait for the ADS box which will be next month. I want to see if this setup will work, but so far nada. I have a Canon ZR 70MC that I use in between an Audigy firewire and SVHS input on the tv. I've searched the forums, enough to know that it may be a little buggy, I've read Spot's and others posts about it and tried a few things -

AV --> DV is off on the camcorder
I can capture from the camcorder into vegas fine
Preview is set to auto
On the devices tab, I've both checked and unchecked Recompress edited frames
If I try the Print to tape option, that works - I see the video on the ext. monitor.

Just not during normal playing, editing.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is some setting with the canon, but I've followed those directions too - to the point that you have to use the remote control to put it into rec-pause mode while it is in playback mode, and it does indicate that there is DV In, but doesn't show the video or pass it along to the TV.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

thanks,
David

I got a Cannon ZR 45. If your camera remote is anything like the one that comes with the 45 Its frustrating. In fact you can only do some functions from the remote like AVI passt hrough.

Just a guess by I bet either there is a setting on the camera remote or on one of the menu choices you see on the camera LCD screen that isn't right. The Canon manual for the ZR45 is pretty good, but not that well organized.

For me sometimes I forget to turn the camera on and at least with my ZR 45 it goes off by itself after 5 minutes if nothing is happening unless its set up for DV in. Aside from that it works fine so unless Canon changed something the newer ZR 70 should work fine too once all the switches are right. I know for a fact if set to pass through mine won't show on the external until you undo that option from the LCD menu.
