FULL Black aspect ratio overlay?

wwjd wrote on 1/13/2013, 11:32 PM
I got a file from someone on here that masks with a 2.40:1 aspect ratio - I did a search but could not dig up that original thread SORRY!!

anyway, the black bars are dark, but they are not like zero black. Could someone explain to me how to make it full black (regardless of proper color levels *I* want it full black) since I can't open the PSD in PAINT. Paint is the extent of my graphics know-how. :)

Why not just crop the bars out with Pan/Crop?

I created the previous mask and I just changed it to 0,0,0 black because you want it BLACK.

1920x800 Mask - Zero Black

Thanks, John! I'm sure it will be perfect!

If could crop the entire project at once, I would, but Vegas doesn't let you crop the main thingy

John, is that file made from Photoshop? I just got that old free version....
I'd like to get rid of the slightly grey lip on the edges, but don't want to tax you for it.
Also want to learn to make different sizes like 2.35 etc
Any tips would be great!

Try these out. These are all .png 1920x1080 files with pure black (0,0,0) border and pure white (255,255,255) screen in various cropping formats. Let me know if there are any others you'd like. It takes about 5 seconds to make each one.

You could also produce them yourself right in Vegas. Add a solid white generated media event and use Pan/Crop to cut off any arbitrary border size, then save the frame as a .png snapshot.

Insert track above everything else, add gen media, solid color = black. Use Pan/Crop tool to crop out 'bottom', leaving a black bar at 'top'; background is transparent by default. Size the crop to taste. Duplicate track and invert the crop = black bar at 'bottom'. Stretch both tracks to desired length of project. No need for separate mask images.

Just another way to skin the cat. (Although, this cat was skinned entirely within Vegas.)
