"full frame" movies

Lately i watched a number of really well made movie spresented in full farme mode:
Knife in teh Water
Kanal
Stray Dog
Duel
Citizen Kane

It looks like if properly done "full frame" has a spectacular potential for beautiful stylization of the frame.

Thus i have 2 questions:
I was wondering if you guys know of movies in letterbox that have significant amount of stylization? Say like "Collateral" and "Insider"...any more?

If i shoot a feature full frame will teh distributors complain? I know that Kubrick shot "Eyes Wide Shut" full frame -- did they leterbox it for theatrical releses?

when you say letterbox, do you mean a full frame that has been cropped or shot in 16X9?

It doesn't matter. The movie i mentioned were shot full frame and presented fullframe with the authors taking full advantage of it.

With Kubric i was wondering whether studio croped latter full frame to "please" viwers going to see the movie in teh theaters.

James Cameron has shot a number of movies in Super 35 format. When you see it on a 4:3 screen you are actually seeing more of the frame than is visable in the theatrical release!

Not sure about some of the films but Duel I believe was framed for film and television. If you look at some of Spielberg's early TV work, like the episode of Columbo, he used very film like methods and had the DP frame up as if it were cinema...in other words "shoot for film, frame for TV"

That Cameron interview was quite good. However, it's not what i'm asking for. I'm asking for examples of moviesfor cinema that were producent in recent years that use full frame instead of letterbox (are there any?)

Gus Van Sant's movie Elephant was shot in full frame aspect. Interesting choice and a very powerful movie. Check it out.
