FX don't work--help

When I push the FX button and try to change HSL or B/C on a clip, nothing shows on the monitor. I have re-introduced my software and still, nothing happens. None of the FX plug-ins respond. Anybody have any ideas.

Is your timeline cursor positioned over the event you are trying to change?

Above the preview display is a button for the split screen. In the drop down menu uncheck, FX bypass. John.
