FX Plugin Chooser Presets Can’t Be Deleted or Renamed (Vegas 23)

FarisAlro wrote on 12/23/2025, 7:52 AM

Hi guys,

I am currently running into an issue since upgrading to Vegas 23 which I have never experienced before on any previous version of Vegas. When I create a plugin chain preset it successfully saves as a preset, however, if I try to delete, move or even rename any of the presets which I have directly created they refuse to go. Whenever I reload the picture-in-picture of the plugin chooser it brings back all the previously deleted presets. I have reset the cache of Vegas 23 by double clicking on the icon whilst holding shift+ctrl, I have also deleted temp files on the system, messed around with some regedit directories and also fresh installed Vegas 23 but the issue is persisting. Is this a known bug or an isolated case?

I wanted to also add that this only occurs on presets which I have created. I downloaded some presets from other users and they are able to be renamed, moved and deleted successfully.

@FarisAlro In fact, VP23 has changed the implementation method of the FX chain preset feature. This change has brought about some problems. I don't really like this change.

The folder for FX chain presets created by VP23:

<Documents>\OFX Presets\fxPackages\

You need to delete them manually.

Meanwhile, the FX chain presets created by VP23 no longer supports DXT video FX (such as those FX that look very old). The presets you downloaded made by other users are based on Sony presets. VP23 can access them but cannot create them. This undermines compatibility.

I still suggest that in future updates, Magix should allow users to choose the way of the FX chain presets. The legacy FX chain preset feature is fine except that it cannot connect to Script API.

Thank you very much for the response! Thats quite annoying how they are moving away from the legacy style of applying FX chain presets, this was one of my favourite features of VEGAS Pro. Guess I got to find a new way to save presets of multiple VFX together then.

Also thank you for the info on where the files are saved, was able to delete them from there!

Hi,

The remove option is just to remove a specific pre-applied FX from the event chain, so it doesn't have much to do with deleting the actual preset package itself.

@FarisAlro Ha, right, sorry I should've opened it to check, I don't use the plugin chooser much & from what I recall right click delete or the keyboard delete works for me.. I've only got 3 fx chains in there.

@FarisAlro If you rename a package you created in VP23, you may need to restart Vegas to see the changes. If you don't restart Vegas, the old name will come back then next time you open the Plug-in Chooser. If you just saved a package, you may need to close the Plug-in chooser window and then open it again in order to enter a new name, otherwise, when you press Enter after typing in a name, the old name pops back. Then after you get the name to stick, you need to restart Vegas.

I also noticed that to save a package that you just built, you need to close the plug-in chooser window and then open it again, then the "Save As" button becomes available.
