FX's are ruining the video, causing glitches or fx disable themselves

hagi10 wrote on 5/7/2025, 3:14 PM

I'm trying to edit a some MP4 files but having some big trouble .
For example;as you may see on the video I uploaded to youtube by this link
I have 8-10 tracks on my project.

On of the tracks ,I add "Brightness and Contrast" and after that " Colorize" effects on a video.
At first everything is ok but after1-1,5 min playback the effects are making themselves disabled and never work again unless I restart the project.

If I try to render the video,it's the same :At first 1-1.20 min is ok and playing fine with the fx I have added but after approximately 1-1.20 min all effects are disabled and mostly the glitches start and sometimes it interferes with another tracks even if Solo is on.

Also,on another example; I add "I add "Brightness and Contrast" and after that " Skin Touch Up" effects on a track.
At first it allows me to modify the effect parameters.I can see the changes of my actions on preview screen but within minutes or after 1-2 playbacks, the effects are completely gone, nothing changes on the video when I change a parameter on any fx.

If I render that,it starts ok and again after 1-1.20 min, the video starts to glitch, flicker and it goes all dark eventually.

What causes those problems? How can I use any effect on any track when I am having the same issues constantly?
Is there a solution for this?

@hagi10 Hi, can you add your pc specs, look in Taskmanager to see what's happening & how much you have set in Preferences - Video - Dynamic RAM Preview ? .

I just added Colorize to a random clip & RAM slowly increased with each loop play, Vegas has a habit of hanging on to this RAM which sometimes can only be cleared by closing Vegas.. Just a thought.

Hello @Gid ,
I have a Ryzen 5 ,32 GB RAM, 16 GB 4060TI WIN 11 Pc and working on Vegas Pro 22
I tried to increase Dynamic Ram Preview to even %75 (24 GB) but that did not solve the problem.

I dont have any issues on normal playback for preview.Vegas works fine unless I add some certain FX like "Colorize,Skin Touch Up,Active Camera and etc."

Just to have a workaround; I tried to render the videos on a clean start project with the FX I wanted to add,so that way I thought without the other tracks, edits or any fx,Vegas would be less stressed and may render the video with FX; then I was gonna import the rendered video to original project I work on...but results are the same.
Problem pattern is the same...on project fxs start to behave strangely, glitch or disable after 1-2 playback .

If I render just after adding the FXs,rendered video starts working fine with the effects then after 1-1.5 min everything is messed up.Glitches start,fx disables itself or it gets darker and darker until the end...

If Vegas has a habit to hang on to Dynamic Ram constantly and increases it more on more in time we work in the project,so how can we use all those FXs and edit those tracks without playback ?
What's the point to have all that plugins and effects then?

To be honest,It really annoys me so much and makes it impossible to work:(

Don't increase dynamic ram preview as it takes away from the available ram for other things. The default is 5 percent.

Do you see issues with only native Vegas Fx? I don't recognize some of the ones you mention. I wonder if a single Fx is causing problems.

hagi10 wrote on 5/8/2025, 1:53 AM

@RogerS I just tried to increase dynamic RAM to see what happens as @Gid requested.

Normally I use it on default %5

I really dont know which ones are native Vegas FX ,I mentioned the ones I remember causing the problems.

Native or not,it is unacceptable for an FX to have the video ruin or disable itself just after 1-1:30 min playback/render,isnt it?

The three FX named are very likely NewBlue FX as NB TotalFX7 has included three FX with those exact names.

it would be good if the OP would identify the NBFX version being used: e.g. TotalFX3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, or early releases of NBFX from 10 years ago or so prior to TotalFX packaging.

@hagi10  I didn't request you to increase it, I just said have a look 'to see how much you have set in Preferences - Video - Dynamic RAM Preview'... My follow up reply would be to reduce it to the default 5% as @RogerS says if you had it set high.

I decided to uninstall all NewBlue plugins and try to look for another plugin pack.
Can you recommend any free or at least reasonable priced plugin pack including "active camera ,colorize and skin touch up" fx?

Dexcon wrote on 5/8/2025, 5:49 AM

The forum has a list of free and commercial FX - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/list-of-cool-or-useful-plugins--134893/

Under the commercial listing, FXHome and VASST products are now discontinued so no longer available, and the latest Red Giant product releases are no longer compatible with Vegas Pro according to a recent Red Giant announcement.

The major comprehensive FX packages are rather limited to NewBlueFX and BorisFX's Continuum Complete. Both packages are expensive to purchase outright but both are available by subscription. Also, smaller themed packages (or Units in the case of BorisFX BCC) are available, though the three FX mentioned earlier in this thread are in 3 different NBFX packages so getting those 3 packages might be as - or nearly as - expensive as getting TotalFX.
