A flaw in the process DVDA uses to calculate the size of the files.

Get yourself a good bitrate calculator and use that. Also, any menu or audio you attach to a menu will increase the space used as well- especially if it is a motion menu.

Thanks J,
This was with no menus or anything else. A half GB seems like a pretty big flaw.
I don't understand how a calculator would help if DVDA decides it's bigger than it really is and refuses to burn the project to disk. I was thinking that a bit calculator was used to compress to an optimum level if a file is bigger than 4.7 GB and one wants to fit the project on one (single layer) disk.
Thanks again J,
Randy

Randy, DVDA has a LONG history of incorrectly reporting file sizes.
IMO, as long as the totals from the bitrate calculator I use (http://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip) are within limits (and they always are), then I ignore the oversize warnings from DVDA and it goes ahead and makes the DVD without any further complaining :-)

It seems like I had a project a while back that DVDA refused to even try to burn but maybe I dreamed that.
Thanks for the advice guys...I'll get John's calculator and ignore everything else.
Thanks again,
Randy

If you Prepare the DVD (not Burn), you can ignore the warning and see what the rendered folder size is, irrespective of the "estimate." At that point it either fits or it doesn't. If it fits, you can proceed to burn your DVD from the prepared folder, If not, you need a smaller file or a bigger disc. Using the bitrate calculator as recommended will save you from that last scenario.

Just out of curiosity I did render it and it came out to exactly what Windows 7 reported (4.48 GB)....DVDA is stupid!!! .................(just kidding)
Thanks again everyone,

No, DVDA really is stupid, at least when it comes to reporting file sizes.
This has been a common complaint for a very long time and something that we've asked repeatedly to be corrected.
Still waiting for that bug fix to show up :-(
