General Vegas Questions

I'm interested in Vegas 2.0, but I have some basic
questions.

I have an RT2000 system. Anyone know how this works with
Vegas Capture. I've tried to capture with it, but the
capture program crashes. Alternatively, does anyone know
if Vegas will use video capture using the RT2000?

Is Vegas Video truly realtime? Effects and all? That
would be amazing without hardware. Is there anything NOT
realtime that we're not hearing?

thanks for your help

I don't have an RT2000 system, but it does capture from a
Matrox G200 and G400 analog system and it does work with
IEEE 1394 interface.

Vegas does a really good job of real time playback in
preview mode. I think this is one of the real strengths of
the program. If you have a lot of stuff going on it does
drop some frames, but it doesn't have to prerender anything
to actually work. It makes timing and setup stuff really a
snap. I've tried lots of programs and I definitely like
this one the best as far as interactive editing goes. The
audio tools are really good too (at least from a video
guy's perspective). There are not a lot of canned video
effects, but I don't like to use a lot of cheesy
transitions anyway. The compositing works really well if
you have enough frames per second (I use 29.97 whenever I
can).
