Sometimes actually most of the time when I fire up V5 I can not get the output on FW to preview, I have to select a small section of the TL and print to tape to get it to wok. Today the same problem, then all of a sudden it started to work.
I have noticed that on the Panasonic NV DV10000 that unless the 16bit led is light I get no preview.
Went to DVDA and pressed the preview button and it worked first time, back to V5 and no show...

any one have any solutions or why, I have checked on the NASA site and there are no sunspot activity so cannot blame it on that.

Trick I've found is to have all f/wire devices on and pointed in the right direction before I start Vegas. For example if I'm going to use the ADVC-300 to feed the external monitor then I switch it to digital before I start Vegas and then I don't have a problem. Some devices try to sense which way the data is going and switch themselves around but this seems to cause a lot of confusion. If an app. is looking for an output device but that device will not become an output device until something is output to it you can see how chaos can set in.

This isn't mostly a Vegas problem, even Macs seem to have problems in this area and heck they invented the damn thing.

I have two f/wire devices pretty well connected all the time, the M-Audio Firewire 410 and the ADVC-300 and the M-Audio box is initialised at power up so having it off before I start Vegas can lead to some ugly conflicts, DV25 through an audio A/D converter doesn;t sound nice at all.

Also I've found having every f/wire device on it's own port seems to reduce the risk of chaos.

Cheemie - I'm listening real hard . . . I'm still playing around with getting my ACEDVio and PANIE NV-DV 10000 AND Ext mon AND VHS VCR to "plumb-together" with the switch gear I spoke of to you over the phone.

Farrs, the Pannie is saying DV-IN so is ready, why should DVDA be OK and not V5. No other FW devices are present, just the pannie.

I've got DVDA2 and V5 working Preview through to the ext mon. You have to "stop" or CLOSE preview on DVDA2 to get it back when you switch to V5 .. Grazie
