Get rid of white in a picture?

Hello,

How may I get rid of the white surrounding the head in this picture?

I tried saving the image as a .png with the checkered white and gray background with my drawing software, but when importing it into Vegas Pro, the white is black instead.

Thank you.

Do you have a track beneath the one containing the image that has some content? If not, the transparent area would indeed be black. You could always upload the image to something like DropBox for testing.

Sure do. I used a different software and saved it as a .png, and that worked. Krita's .png files do not seem to work properly. :/

Black is transparent in Vegas. Some thing like that should be easy to select out in Photoshop and then make transparent or any other color you want. In Vegas, you could try the chroma key with white and see where that gets you. You could also play around with the compositing modes with different solid colors underneath. Chroma key probably best bet in Vegas though. Select out the white color with color picker inside the plug in.

In pic, the white has been keyed out, and screen image now shows as brown circle with black around it. The black is transparent. You can also then save out as .png image in Vegas and it will have an alpha channel, that is, keep the transparency layer.

Yeah, Chroma keyer is what I was looking for. That works! Thank you.
