Getting a snapshot from timeline or trimmer

Is it me or we cannot snapshot a picture out of the timeline?

I was trying to get just a image (one frame) from a video file I loaded into the VMS timeline when I realised that there isn't a option to do so.
The closest is 2 frames output.

Can anyone advise how to get just a JPEG \ BITMAP from a video clip in VMS?

Thanks and regards
Clarke

In the upper right corner of the preview window there are two icons, copy timeline snapshot and save timeline snapshot. Click on the timeline where you want to capture an image and click the save timeline snapshot button it will save image as jpeg. You can use your arrow keys to move frame by frame along the timelibe to get the image you want.

Thanks a lot, will try this out when I am home.

Shucks..I either missed this in the manual or it didn't have this item in it.

SRC is right, but there's a bug in VMS4 which causes it to misbehave with single frames.

I tried it at home,
My version is already patched to 4.0a

The copy does not seem to work.
I copy, then tried to click on any video line, there is no paste.
Then I went to the edit menu, there is also no paste.
I checked the explorer tab, there is no graphic file available to drag onto the timeline.
The "save as" does work, but kind of a hassle to save the and drag it back into the timeline.
It could be that if it pastes, the media tab may not have an icon in it.
The file saved is JPEG or PNG by default.

Anyway, my question is half resolved.

Thanks

You're right - looks like another bug!

Are you expecting it to copy the frame you saved (using the floppy disk save icon) directly onto the timeline? Or, at least, have a copy of the saved frame on the clipboard for a paste? I don't believe it has ever worked like that, and I for one am glad it doesn't.

You mention it doesn't show up in the explorer view after you do the snapshot. You might have to do a refresh (green recycle looking icon) to have it show up in the Explorer view. Have you looked in the media pool view? I'm on version 4.0a and when I do a frame capture it does show up in the media pool view. If y

Hi gogiants,
Basically like what IanG said, it looks like another bug which probably patch 4.0b (if it comes out) would probably have to address.

You can save a snapshot on the timeline onto whichever location you want to. Be it C:\ or Desktop. Then you have to use the explorer to find the JPEG you want and drag onto the timeline. If it is already in a directory where the explorer is, you got to refresh the tab (this part I know as I already experienced it).

The bug appears to be the "Copy Timeline Snapshot" (between the save icon and preview icon).
You can click the icon, but there does not seem to have a way to paste it to the timeline, either does it appear in the media pool.

Maybe you have tried it and somehow can do it, I am most willing to try as I find it quite labor-ious (is there such a word??) to save into a directory, then use explorer to drag and load)... One snapshot would be okay not when you have say 10-20 snapshots to do.

That bug's been there since MS3! It looks like it's not high on Sony's list of fixes.
