As I was cleaning up my system drive, I rediscovered a tool I used a few times a year or so ago (before I'd even heard of Vegas). It's called Ac3 Decode, and will decode a VOB's AC3 stream and save it to a file (WAV, MP3, or...?) that you can then bring onto your Vegas timeline.
If you don't trust freeware <g> I just discovered a very similar program for $22. It looks to do pretty much the same thing, so maybe it's just a more current (and more corporate?) version from the same author.
[Edit: Ah. I see from the second site that the pay program is indeed based on the free one, and taken over by a big evil corporation. Heh.]
[Edit 2: (Should really be sure I'm done with my notes before I post them...) I also see that the pay program will decode 5.1, but mix it down to stereo and save it as one file. Anyone know any tools that will save 5.1 to six distinct audio files?]
