Getting echo after 2 seconds recording

Hello again.

Having managed to get Vegas Pro to record audio commentary, I find I have a situation where the recording is perfect for 2 seconds, then reduces in volume and sounds distant and has an echo as if it is being recorded in an empty room. (Vegas pro 14, build 270, 64 bit, windows 10). I have tried changing some settings but to no avail. Anyone got any thoughts as to what could be causing this? Thanks.

What audio interface are you using to input your commentary into Vegas? It is probably down to settings with that that are causing the problem. Maybe you have Input Monitoring turn on for the track and it is getting back into the recorded signal causing a delayed feedback loop.

Hi ryclark, thanks for replying. I have a Realtek 2280W HD audio device which was preinstalled on the PC. Where do I find Input Monitoring? Sorry to be so thick!!

On the audio Track header. However it could also be down to how Windows Sound Recording is set up on your PC.

I would also suspect the 'audio monitor' setting. Sound Forge exhibits the same when using Classic Wave Driver or MS Sound Mapper audio device. turning the audio monitor off, eliminates the 'feedback'.

Hi all and thanks for your replies. Got a slightly bigger problem now in as much as I'm not getting any sound at all from the sound card (I presume it's a sound card problem). No sound at all from any program including Music Player. Don't know what's happened but I'm stuck at the moment. Need to get this sorted before I can go back to the Vegas problem.

Thanks for your replies ryclark & rraud. I've sorted out the sound card problem. I'd obviously clicked on a button I shouldn't have done, anyway I now have sound. As regards the Vegas problem, my audio track header doesn't look like the one you show ryclark (as long as what I'm calling the Audio Track Header is the same as what you're calling it)! Maybe I'm looking at something different, so I'm scratching my head on that one, and I'm also having a problem finding where to turn off audio monitor. I really am sorry to be so stupid, but can you give me step-by-step instructions as to how to do both these things?

Thanks everso for the guidance so far, much appreciated.

Steve

Good afternoon everyone.

Thanks again to all who have given some thought to my problem, especially ryclark & rraud. I think I've now solved it. It seems it was the Radeon software that was causing the problem, activating the "acoustic echo cancellation" and de-activating "noise suppression" appears to have done the trick. This was really strange as recording voice in Cyberlink Powerdirector recorded ok, but Microsoft Voice recorder gave the same problem as Vegas did. This pointed me to the Radeon software rather than Vegas. Anyway, it's working fine now so thanks again.
