getting numerous files when capturing video

Using Movie Studio Platinum, when capturing video from my camera (HDR-FX7) to the computer, the video will "snag"  or "hiccup" and start another file.  I usually lose a second or two of footage when this happens but it's annoying getting anywhere from 4 to 11 files per 60 minute tape.  I had this same issue when Sony had the software. I have been able to go back, on the tape, and re-capture over those skips and then edit it back in, so it appears to make this skip randomly.

Or download your files with "PlayMemories Home" on your PC and you will get the right files

My old trick on capturing HDV tapes: use HDVSplit as Nick suggested, but capture WITHOUT auto splitting first... After everything captured, put the long record again to HDVSplit, then do Splitting process.

A bit confusing process, but it works.

Personally I never had a problem with auto-splitting while capturing, so if you use HDVSplit then I suggest trying that first, then fall back to Set's method if you still have a problem.

But Vegas should be able to do this. You might have a hardware/driver issue with your IEEE 1394 interface.

I preferred also HDVsplit to capture my HDVtapes instead of the Sony/Magix HDV capture application, for the same reason as tom-p described. With the Sony/Magix HDV capture application you miss always a few frames of each new scene. Also with HDVsplit you have the opportunity to name your clips with the date/time stamp from your recordings.

Thanks for the input.  I finally tried a demo and it worked sweet!  Happy filming...
