Getting past 2 minutes... VP9-32

LarsHD wrote on 5/24/2009, 5:28 AM
Can't add any stuff beyond 2 minutes on the time line. Past the point of 2 minutes on the time line VP9-32 refuses to accept any clips/events.

What am I doing wrong? See that all VP have a limit for 2 minutes if you create a new project and just mark up as much as you can. I'm tired today and need help..

So if you drop a 30-minute clip on the timeline, it only adds the first two minutes?

Or you're trying to leave the front blank and add a clip later on down the timeline? If that's the case, just add some clips to the timeline to get to the point where you want them to be and then, after adding your clip, delete them. Or add it at the very front, put the cursor at the front, and then do an "Insert - Time" to move it down to the point where you want it to start.

Thank.. I see what's happening here.

If I add a 30 second clip starting at 01:50 min then that will extend the usable timeline beyond 2:00 minutes.

BUT.... as I just experienced, if I try to mark up an area, starting at 01:50 - 2:20 minutes to show where I want CInescore Generated music, then the time line wont go beyond 2 minutes...

Which makes making space for generated Music impossible. Unless I forst drop a fake clip or something that will make room for the marking up of space i need for the generated music...

This does seem, like a bug to me.... Although there is a workaruond that I see now...

Agree?

Naw can't be a bug I just did a wedding vid on V9 32 bit and slapped twohours on the time line no problems at all render worked fine had no problems going past two min. ha sto be something else. I have been really working V9 the last couple of days and so far no crashes render problems or anything. I just tried it again HD video placed. Everything works. Don't know unless it is something else

That's because you "slapped" content on to the timeline... Try marking 3 minutes just sliding with the mouse on an empty project and you'll see what I mean... ;)

Lars,

What you're experiencing is by design and always has been, afaik. Every new project is created with a default length. That length automatically adjusts as you add new events to tracks but if all you are doing is adding markers and regions to an empty timeline, the project length won't change.

If you don't want to put events on the timeline, the way to grow the total length of the project is through the command Insert/Time.... Put your insertion point at the end to the ruler, as far as it can go, and then use the command to insert more time.

It looks like you could alter this in Vegas's internal prefs. The default length of a new, empty project is 120 seconds, or 1,200,000,000 of whatever unit Vegas is using. If you wanted to make the default 1 hour then you'd find that setting in the internal prefs and multiply it by 30. Then every new, empty project would start with a one hour duration and you could put markers and regions in where you wanted. You could probably even paste a list of your preset marks in the edit details window.

I haven't got Cinescore on the computer I'm at, but I believe you can change the length of the piece right there. If so, just launch the plugin without creating a selection, and adjust the length in Cinescore.

As for the two-minute default, I don't see anything unusual about it. A Word document doesn't start out with an infinite number of pages. A Photoshop file doesn't start out with an infinite number of layers. You start out with adequate "workspace" to begin, and more is added as you insert content (or manually insert more workspace). Think of the wasted memory if they behaved otherwise.
