GIF Crash Bug still present in Vegsa 5.0b

Cheesehole wrote on 7/17/2004, 3:16 PM
Another one...

I gave Vegas 5.0b a try but it still contains the GIF crash bug. While GIF images are drawing on the time line Vegas is susceptible to a crash. If another application pops up or I switch to another application and the images aren't finished updating this error is triggered.

The problem is... sometimes the images redraw unexpectedly so I can't just avoid the crash by waiting for the thumbnails to finish drawing before doing anything on my system.

Hiyah!

Well, I've just loaded an animted GIF into V5b build 160:

1/ Previewed from Media Pool - OK

2/ Previewed on a loop on the T/L - OK

3/ Openned DVDA2a while animation was looping in V5 - OK

4/ Played a Project in DVDA2a while GIF was looping - OK

5/ Stretched, dissolved and added an FX [ colour curves ] AND adjusted the FX while the GIF animated - OK

. .anything else you want me to test out - regarding gif stuff? I did this, CJH, 'cos I l;ike using GIFs in my projects. .. It worked in V4, wanted to assure myseklf it still worked in V5b - yeah? Thanks for the heads up though!

Next thing I'll do is to save this GIF test and try reopen it .. yeah?

Grazie

I'm just laying PowerPoint slides on the timeline in the form of static GIF images. To reproduce - drag about 30 onto the timeline with one drag operation and then switch apps while they are drawing. That usually triggers the crash.

Regards,
- Ben

Oh! I see . . .

I've logged this in our bug database. We'll investigate this.

In the meantime, can you save your PowerPoint slides to something other than GIF? JPEG or PNG will use a different plug-in to read them so you could use this to work around the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no I need to use GIF's.

Hoping this will get fixed soon... I just lost work again.
