Are you seeing the glitches viewing the rendered file directly, or when Prining-to-Tape, or burning a VCD, or where? I really haven't seen many posts on rendering problems, but lots on Print-to-Tape. DGrob

The problems almost always occur during print to tape, although they will sometimes appear during preview also. They always occur in the same place in the render, so I'm wondering if it is maybe some kind of seek time issue with my drive (Splintered files, etc.)

Despite the ongoing controversy on this forum regarding fragmentation of the hard drive and whether or not it should be defragged, I have found that many print to tape problems, as well as problems creating DVDs in DVD Workshop, can be cleared up by defragmenting the hard drive.

I've also found that a bad firewire connection can be the culprit, whether because the plug is loose in the socket or because the cable has been damaged by being twisted or stepped on.

One thing to possibly consider is a corupt frame. Just a thought.

Try recapturing all the clips.

on the internal vegas preview monitor, is there a glitch? If not, there's no need tro recapture or re-render.

I've had similar random glitch/drop out problems Printing to tape from the timeline of a project, so I always render to an avi first, then Print to tape with the Capture utility.

For me this has solved the problem.

I've also had to import my *.avi files from an external firewire HD back on to C drive, and PTT from there. Then delete the copy. DGrob

Looking over the thread I did not see a mention of the frame rate. The reason I ask is because I had almost the exact same issue at one point - I was working in 24p and when I did a PTT the first time it was perfect. Then I had to fix some things and the next time the PTT would freeze/skip frames/drop audio at the exact same points - no matter what I did. I would re-render, I would defragment, I would replace only that section - didn't matter. The exact same point every time would glitch. So - what it turned out was the pull down, in my case from the timeline, was borderline. The solution for me was to render out and than use the VidCap mod to PTT. Problem solved.

The complete reply from SonyDennis is here: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=210962&Page=0.

(Also note that my follow up question has never been answered. And it sort of follows what you are asking...in my case it was how can the issue be CPU related yet the file always will glitch at the exact same point. And why will the file play perfect from anything but the actual timeline?)

Rendered at 30i from 30i, and printed off the timeline of a new project. The glitches occasionally appear on the preview, but often not. They are also random in that it does not seem to matter if an effect is applied or not. I will try printing from capture and I guess we'll see what happens from there. Thanks for all the advice!
